Bryan Brief Header
👋 Hey y'all, George & Wesley here. Y'all won't believe the last 48 hours. Monday we walked 18 with Sergio Garcia in a practice round. Tuesday, me and Wes teed it up in final qualifying for The Open. Biggest crowds we've ever played in front of. A hole-out for eagle. And a putt on 18 that's going to sting for a long time. We didn't get through. But what a ride.
P.S. On our way to Royal Birkdale right now. Major Cut on links soil. Strap in 👀
🌟 Monday: A practice round with Sergio
Practice round with Sergio Garcia
Monday was surreal. We played our practice round with Sergio Garcia and Jose Ballester. All 18 with Sergio. Got to see how a Major champion actually prepares for a qualifier. Unreal. Whole squad was there. Cam, Carney, Mills, Wes. Piled into a rental car, drove to West Lancs, walked the full 18. Cam caddied for Wes. I was nervous. But the game felt just as good as it did the week before. Wesley played amazing. Went to bed feeling like we'd actually earned our spot in this thing.
⛳ My qualifier: George
Most nervous I've been in a tournament, maybe ever. Hands were shaking so bad I could hardly get the tee in the ground. Smoked my drive, had 40 yards to the pin, chipped to 50 feet, three-putted. At least we're off. But then something clicked. Found comfort in the nerves. Hit shots with pressure, kept the routines tight. Heading into the back nine we were inside the cut, top 4 with 9 to go. Then the moment I'll remember forever. 7 iron from 160 into the wind on hole 8. Drew it in perfectly. Rolled. Disappeared. Eagle. The gallery went crazy. Round 2 I was in full flow. Most comfortable I've ever felt in competition

🎒 Finchy on the bag
Peter Finch caddying for Wesley Bryan
Also, gotta give a massive shoutout to Peter Finch. Finchy grabbed the bag for Wes and walked 36 holes of qualifier golf with him at West Lancs. Absolute legend behavior, mate.
💔 Wes's qualifier: how close is too close
Wes here. My day is going to sting for a while. Started 2 under through 3, hitting it solid. Then missed 4 greens in a row and made 4 straight bogeys. Fought all the way back to 2 under on the back nine of round 1. Round 2 I came out hot. Turned in at 4 under to get back inside the cut line. Last 4 or 5 holes I was in the thick of it. Playing like a guy who had a chance to win a golf tournament. Then 18. Middle of the fairway. Missed the green left. Needed a birdie to make the cut. A par to make a playoff. Watched an 8-footer for par slide by. Missed the cut by one shot.
🏟️ Playing in an actual circus
Bryan Bros at West Lancs Final Qualifier crowds
Sadly, back nine golf happened. But the crowds? The best part of the whole day. It was like playing in an actual circus. Hitting over umbrellas. Hitting over people. 300 to 400 fans walking in the fairways with us, conversations everywhere. On paper, me and Wes had no business being in the thick of it. But we were. Two proud brothers.
Stop hanging on your back foot 👀

Pelli Back Foot Fix

The problem: hanging on the back foot to square an open clubface.

The fix:

  • Setup: one hand-width from the club to your belt buckle
  • Toe-up drill: right foot in the air as you swing down

Off the trail side, the clubface fixes itself.

👉 Haven't submitted your swing yet?

That's it for this week's Bryan Brief.

One shot from a Major. Heartbreaking. But we came here to compete, and we did that. Now it's onto Birkdale. Wes has redemption on his mind.

👉 Who do you think makes the Birkdale cut, me or Wes? Hit reply and let me know.
