👋 Hey y’all, George here. This week we’re sharing a few things like what actually happens after a missed cut, the club I trust the least, and the shot that always gets in my head.

Quick thanks to ShipSticks for sponsoring this week’s Brief.
P.S. Check out Pelli’s Tip of the Week for a quick drill to stop sliding through impact.
✂️ Missed Cut Reality
Missed Cut
Wesley will take the wheel here. I’ve missed plenty of 'em in my day. It usually starts with a little bit of sadness. Then the brain immediately switches to logistics. Can I change my flight and get home earlier? If flights are crazy expensive, you stay. And honestly the practice facilities on Tour are too good not to use. On the PGA Tour there are Brand new Pro V1s. Perfect greens. Great short game areas. Sometimes you grind for a bit. Other times you accept it just was not your week. I used to travel with my video game console. Fire that up, find a couple buddies who also missed the cut, and go grab dinner to sulk together. You either get out of town early… or reset and get ready for the next stop.

🪵 3-Wood Trust Issues
3 Wood
The club I secretly don’t trust? It's not a secret. The 3-wood. And honestly it is not even a secret. That thing stinks. I just do not have a ton of trust in it. Some days it is great, other days it feels like I have absolutely no idea where the ball is going. The good news is Takomo is working on a new 3-wood, so hopefully that one will be a little easier for me to trust. Until then… there are definitely moments where I look at the shot and think “Yeah… maybe not the 3-wood here.”

😨 The Shots We Fear
Scary Golf Shot
George:
The one that gets in my head is that 120–125 yard shot into the wind where pitching wedge isn’t an option. Now I’m trying to hit a three-quarter 9-iron, and the moment the thought creeps in of “don’t turn this over left”… it usually wants to go left.

Wesley:
Mine is the 35-yard bunker shot when you’re standing on a big upslope and the pin is tucked on the back. You have to absolutely flush it to carry it there… and if you don’t, you’re suddenly staring at a long putt just trying to save par.

⏳ 30 Days Out
Thirty days before a tournament, I am not really trying to fix everything. I want my game to be sharp across the board. Driving, putting, chipping, full swing… all of it. But the biggest thing is actually playing more golf.

If I do not have a tournament coming up, I might spend more time practicing. When an event is close though, I want to be on the course, going through routines and getting comfortable playing the game.

Usually what happens to me is about a week before the tournament I start thinking “man… I am not playing very well.” Then I try to fix everything at once.

The truth is by that point it is too late. So the best advice I give myself is simple… calm down, stop freaking out, and just go play golf.

Pelli Tip

Stop Sliding Through Impact

  • If you slide through the ball, the issue usually starts with a flat takeaway and turn.
  • This keeps too much flex in the trail knee and forces your body toward the target.
  • Place a resistance band under your trail foot and lift your trail arm until it touches your trail knee.
  • This exaggerates a stronger pivot and helps eliminate the slide.
That’s it for this week. Between missed cuts, sketchy 3-woods, and those into-the-wind shots that make you question everything… golf has a funny way of keeping us humble.

💬 Reply to this email and tell us the club you trust the least in your bag. We have a feeling the 3-wood is going to show up a lot.
